Schedules are tough right now.

Your customers or prospects have questions, and when another long email won’t quite cut it, I’ve got a solution for you ?

If you’ve read any of my blog posts in the past year, then you know that my #1 go-to trick is to record async videos. I truly believe it’s the most powerful (and easy) way to get your message across. Video helps you answer complex questions or show your buyers something visual – and takes way less time than drafting up a reply to an already out-of-control email thread.

Here’s how it works:

Step 1️⃣ You record a great video and send it out.

Step 2️⃣ Your customer watches your video.

A lot of the time, it’s as easy as that. Boom. Another thing you can check off your list.

But what if they still have questions?

Drift Video Bot is the new way to drive engagement with your video viewers 24/7. Now when you send a video to someone and they have follow-up questions for you, Drift Video Bot is there to help.

The best thing about it is that it’s on standby at all hours of the day – so if someone watches your video at 2am (hey, it happens), they can still get immediate assistance from Video Bot. It sits on every one of your videos waiting to greet the viewer the second they start watching to help deliver the best possible outcome – whether that’s jumping into a conversation or booking a meeting. No matter what time of day.

For example, Drift’s own Video Bot helped our sales team 2X the number of conversations started and meetings booked with customers who they were trying to get in touch with.

Here are 3 ways Drift Video Bot will help you engage your viewers and drive results ?

Recording a video is the perfect alternative for an unnecessary meeting. But what if you’re goaled on meetings booked or your customer needs a more detailed explanation that requires a Zoom call?

Drift Video Bot has your back. Your video viewers can easily book time on your calendar by clicking on the Book A Meeting button. It’ll ask for their email and then drop your calendar so they can choose a time that works best for them.

Now you can still get that meeting booked – even in your sleep.

(Psst! Booking meetings is available on our Teams plan – get your demo today)

We all want to meet our buyers where they are. And when they have questions, we should be able to help them as quickly as possible.

Not only will you be notified when someone starts watching your video, but Drift Video Bot will also notify you when the viewer wants to chat. When the viewer clicks on the “I have a question” button, your Drift Video Bot will hop in and let the person know that they’ve notified you and that you’ll be jumping into the conversation as soon as you can.

It’s a nice way of setting expectations when someone views your video, but doesn’t stop them from saying hello.

The reason video works so well in helping you engage your customers or prospects is because it helps show that you’re human and lets you communicate more effectively.

From your custom welcome message to responses after they give an emoji react, your Drift Video Bot will help you deliver an amazing experience so you can engage more of your buyers.

Schedules are tough right now. And it changed everything.

Drift Video has helped me start conversations and sparked a kind of creativity that is compelling impressing C-level sales and marketing leaders from enterprise organizations to take a meeting with me.

Or perhaps more exciting for the quota-carriers out there, Drift Video has helped me hit my meetings quota just two weeks into the month!

Here’s what I do: I record 30-second videos of my face, talking to prospects as if they were on FaceTime or a Skype call with me.

I start off every video with a nice wave to show my prospects that there’s a video behind the GIF. It looks a little something like this?

Not bad, right?

Recording videos is so simple and effective, but there’s not a ton of us doing it. Prospecting constantly ebbs and flows. Just because someone liked what you sent today doesn’t mean they’ll like or appreciate it tomorrow.

It’s worth giving a new approach a shot.

And that’s why I’m finally letting you in on my secrets and sharing what I’ve learned after using Drift Video to book meetings for the better part of this year. Soon you’ll have prospects that once ignored your emails and voicemails chatting you back in real-time as if you were two friends texting.
Introducing Drift Video Bot.

1. Drift Video Bot will book meetings for you.

2. Drift Video Bot will notify you when someone wants to chat.

3. Drift Video Bot will offer your viewers moments of delight.

The 6-Month Chase Turned Into 3 Minutes

There was this one account I’d been chasing for six months. My manager knew who they were because I’d taped their logo on my desk and made it a weekly goal to get a meeting with them.

After attempts with four teams, 22 contacts, and 176 touches on one single account, it was a 30-second Drift Video that resonated and had a key decision-maker ASKING me for the meeting. When you’re measured on generating pipeline, there’s no better assurance that the time you’re spending recording videos was worth it!

Okay, enough build-up. Here’s the playbook for creating Drift Videos that get clicked, viewed, and replied to.

Step 1 – Make It About Them

Spend 30 seconds thinking about what that person cares about – based on what they do or who they report to. It’s even better if you have some insider knowledge about upcoming projects they’re working on or goals their team needs to hit.

Making it about them – not you, not your product, not your company – is what matters.

Step 2 - Be Human

When you have an idea or two in mind of what you’re going to say, get ready to press play! It’s key to be human and allow yourself to make mistakes. So introduce yourself, say your intro research, and share why you made them the video. Then you have a couple options to sign off. A personal favorite (that’s proven to work) is, “More than anything I’m looking for feedback, so please share what you think!”

Step 3 – Send It

Copy and paste the Drift Video link into your email or LinkedIn message and press send – no message necessary. Seriously. The GIF speaks for itself and will intrigue someone enough to click. Especially if you’ve got that “I’m dying to talk to you” smile on your face.

More on what that looks like?

Or this?

Step 4 – Get Ready To Have A Conversation

Wait for them to click. Once they do, you’ll get desktop and mobile notifications so you can jump straight into a conversation with them in real-time.

The goal is to get them to continue watching, so use ask open-ended questions that would make you want to reply and start a conversation:

Your opener can literally make or break whether or not you get a reply to your video. Also, timing is everything. So when you see that notification, jump right in.

Pro Tip: Just be yourself. Casual and excited that they’re watching.

Getting That First Reply In Drift Video

So you got your first reply...now what? If your goal is to book a meeting, let every action guide that! The replies you get are typically going to be compliments – because your prospects will think it’s pretty cool that you took the time to make this one person their very own video ?

So reply with a thank you and sentiment that is genuine. Don’t reply “Thanks for watching.” Trust me, you won’t get a reply. The key is to show them that there’s a human on the other end, since so much of what salespeople send today is automated.

Let your creativity fly and keep your end goal in mind. Be helpful and ask for the meeting. You’ve heard this before, but remember that you’ve got to give before you get?

And keep giving?

Maybe You’re Asleep When They Watch

This actually happens a good amount. Maybe you’re in a meeting, at the gym, or even sleeping.

You might wake up with or walk out of a meeting with a reply to your video like this?

Or this?

What If They Don’t Watch?

Yeah, that’s definitely going to happen from time-to-time. My best suggestion is to just follow-up. Pass along a friendly note that is helpful, not salesy. This has worked to get people to click?

And this too?

So, What Are The Results?

I book about one meeting for every 10 videos I send. That means if I make 10 personalized videos, at least two to three people will reply, and one will ask for a meeting.

Video sends to meetings also fluctuates depending on the channel I use to send the videos. Usually a LinkedIn message or an email the prospect has already replied to have proved to be most successful at starting a conversation.

Also, prospects can hardly believe how fast they are willing to give their time ?

Or, you might even send a video, jump in to start chatting when they’re watching, and then have them ask you to call them right then and there?

Final Thought: Have Fun & Be Authentic!

If I can encourage you to do just one thing with Drift Video, it would be to figure out what will make yours stand out from the rest. There’s no wrong way to get started.

I'm going to start by saying what every sales rep knows: getting the attention of new prospects is getting harder.

When you send an email, is it dying in the person's inbox? When you leave a message, is it going to be returned?

Here at Frontify, we're big believers in the power of brand. I mean, we're basically screaming it from the rooftops. We're providing an all-in-one brand management platform, uniting DAM with brand guidelines and collaborative project spaces; enabling companies to tell an authentic brand story. With that in mind, it's only reasonable that we'd like to take that approach to sales as well.

That's why we're constantly looking for ways to do that – beyond cold calling and emailing prospects. Then, we thought… why not video?

The search for a new way of selling

As sellers, we have a mission.

We need to consult with our prospects, connect with them, and help them. But, ultimately, it's up to us to make sure our customers are happy with the solution we're offering up. Otherwise, they're going to churn.

For me, that means taking a personalized approach to our customers. McKinsey is predicting personalization will be the prime driver of marketing success within five years. Plus, leaders that have embraced personalization have found proven ways to drive 15% increases in revenue, and 10 to 30% increases in marketing-spend efficiency.

The key to personalization boils down to one factor: impressions.

Customers decide very quickly – in a matter of seconds – whether they like what you're offering. We've got a split second to make an impact on that decision, so we decided to use that time to make an impact through video.

Shaking up our outbound sales approach with video

I recently read about an approach to sales that's stuck to me like glue.

"If you want 10 minutes of my time, make sure that you at least spend 10 minutes of time researching me."

This ☝️

Customers want to be heard; we all know it. We kept this in mind when we started experimenting with personalized videos in our outbound approach.

First, we research their company to see what they're all about and whether or not Frontify can actually help their brand. Then, using what we find, we build and send a personalized video to introduce ourselves. We send them out to a company's decision-maker. The person whose attention we want the most.

To date, we've sent hundreds of personalized outbound videos using Drift Video.

Drift Video allows us to:

Reinforcing value through video is our future

The question we ask ourselves when pitching a prospect is… how much is too much?

We've made a rule when we send out our pitches. We keep the videos to a minute (max!), and if it's shorter – it's even better. We do this because we don't want to give away too much from our value proposition. And if the video is too long, we know the people are not going to watch it anyway.

One of the coolest things we've found since introducing video into our selling toolkit is that it helps with our proof of concepts. When I talk to a customer about a proof of concept, I walk them through it, and then afterwards, I make a video that walks them through it – again.

Why? Three reasons:

An example of what Frontify looks like under the hood

If anyone on our customer's end has a question, they can hit me up instantly in the chat function of the video, and I'm notified immediately through my Drift app. This cuts out a ton of friction in our selling process and allows me to respond to customer queries in real-time.

Its level of connection helps us close deals on the fly every single day. Building a connection with customers on this level really helps drive our value across. Using video, we have a chance to explain just how much value our product can add to a prospect's business, and we've been able to show that we're better than the competition.

We listen to our users, not only through day-to-day support; our product development is user-centric because our users know what’s best. That requires a partner, not just another tool. With Drift, we can be that kind of approachable partner.

For us, personalized videos have become our new path to winning.
